Canyon

Canyon Lake is at an elevation of 1,660 feet in an area that lays between the Superstition Wilderness and the Four Peaks Wilderness areas.

The lake has 926 surface acres and a depth of 130 feet and is part of the Slat River Chain.

The United States Forest Service maintains the area.

Largemouth, smallmouth and yellow bass are available to the angler. Other species found in the lake are rainbow trout, walleye, crappie, sunfish, channel catfish and carp.

Located 15 miles east of Phoenix, take the scenic Apache Trail (Highway 88) from Apache Junction.

Climate temperature range from lows in near 25 degrees in December to high hitting 115 degrees from July through September. Precipitation generally ranges from 2 to 8 inches per year.

Report: Great day for fishing,my brother Ray and I fished about 4 hr.Fished the dam and Rock creek. Cought 11 bass lost 3 and one nice 3 lb spot and Ray got his fishing mojo back.

Tips: All fish on plastic, watermelon color. Bang the bottom and fish slow.

Report: fished early morning near acacia and first water cove, still a little chilly, sunny with no clouds this time, but no action until 11:45. picked up 1st 3lb bass at boulder with a warning sign on top, heading into canyon going up river. seemed like any place there were submerged boulder or rock piles near the shore was the ticket, using texas-rigged robo 4 1/2" worms in fx mmII colors. total was four fish. and one large "oh s--- bass that spit the hook half way in! more hope for next wed when we go again!!!
