Berkeley Springs Wins Berkley High School Fishing Challenge

 
West Virginia high school accumulates over 64K points in challenge

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Berkeley Springs High School recently won the 2016 High School Fishing Club Challenge. The Berkley challenge saw over 3,200 active participants (double over last year) and 239 high schools across 38 states represented. As the newly crowned champions, Berkeley Springs High School in Berkeley, W.V., will receive $4,500 in prizes for the entire club.

"The team is very excited about this win," said Patty Caldwell. "It is truly an honor to be recognized and the team has worked so hard to accomplish everything that they have in such a short time frame. We are very proud of this accomplishment and I want give Berkley our sincere thanks for this wonderful opportunity on behalf of the team, our Captains, and all of our volunteers."

There are many ways to accumulate points through the interactive site http://www.hs.berkley-fishing.com. The Berkley High School Fishing Club Challenge is an interactive fishing program for high school students in the U.S. The Challenge encourages students to learn fishing skills and techniques, environmental stewardship and conservation.

The first-place team wasn't the only team cashing in on some Berkley prizes. Second place went to Travelers Rest High School in Travelers Rest, S.C. that pocketed $2,000 in prizes. Third place went to Colfax High School out of Colfax, Wis., which received $1,000 in product.

"The first year of our unique interactive website was a resounding success," said Andrew Marks, Berkley program director. "We literally doubled the number of schools and individuals that participated along with having 38 states participate, an increase over the 27 from 2015. Over 55,000 challenges were completed and 1,000 prizes redeemed throughout the season."
