Boy Scouts of America Sea Scout Program Receives Personal Locator Beacons

Fort Lauderdale, Florida – ACR Electronics, Inc., a Drew Marine Company, has had the honor of manufacturing lifesaving equipment for military forces, aviation, space programs, mariners, and outdoor enthusiasts around the world since 1956. To celebrate their 60 years of success ACR has been giving back to the communities and industries which it serves with generous donations. The latest donation was made to Boy Scouts of America Sea Scout program, where ACR donated 20 Personal Locator Beacons (PLBs) for their safe water trainings.

"The PLBs will be a great asset to have in our training for youth to be safe on the water. Sea Scouts, our co-ed teenage youth program is all about getting youth in, on, around, and under the water, shared Keith Christopher, Council Services Department Manager of Sea Scouts Boating Safety Office. Mr. Christopher also later expressed, "We are proud to be a recipient of ACR's donation in support of our member's safety. We know the true value of a locator beacon is priceless, once someone has been rescued!"

Personal Locator Beacons are used in situations of grave and eminent danger. Once the person in distress pushes the emergency button on their beacon a 406 MHz signal is sent to a series of satellites, called the Cospas-Sarsat system. These satellites then send distress messages to a mission control center who will locate the closest rescue coordination center who then dispatch a Search and Rescue crew. ACR Electronics is the largest U.S. manufacturer of 406 MHz beacons.

The Boy Scouts of America is one of the nation's largest and most prominent values-based youth development organizations. The BSA provides a program for young people that builds character, trains them in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and develops personal fitness.
For more than a century, the BSA has helped build the future leaders of this country by combining educational activities and lifelong values with fun. The Boy Scouts of America believes — and, through over a century of experience, knows — that helping youth is a key to building a more conscientious, responsible, and productive society.
