CDFW Angler Update | Fish for Free

September is a great month to take someone new to fishing and show them the ropes. Fall run salmon in the Central Valley rivers, striped bass in the Delta, tuna and yellowtail off the coast of Southern California and trout fishing in the Sierra are all great bets for September fishing in California. Get out on the water, take a friend or family member with you and enjoy the outdoors.

Saturday, September 3 is the second of two Free Fishing Days in 2016, when people can try their hand at fishing without having to buy a sport fishing license. Free Fishing Days are a great opportunity for licensed anglers to introduce non-angling friends and children to fishing and the outdoors. All fishing regulations, such as bag and size limits, gear restrictions, report card requirements, fishing hours and stream closures remain in effect. CDFW invites all Californians to celebrate the end of summer by going fishing.
