EVERSTART SERIES WESTERN DIVISION HEADED TO THE CALIFORNIA DELTA

Pre-spawn pattern likely as weather starts to warm

OAKLEY, Calif. (March 21, 2012) – The EverStart Series is headed to the California Delta March 29-31 when as many as 300 pros and co-anglers take to the water for the third of four stops in the Western Division.

“The bass are going to be in full-on pre-spawn mode right now,” said FLW Tour pro Cody Meyer of Auburn, Calif. “We’re just getting past a cold front that came through, but the temperature has been warming and the weather has been pretty stable. There should be a pretty good bite.”

Meyer said that anglers should target some of the flooded lakes and fish shallow.

“If I were fishing this tournament, I would target the Frank’s Tract area,” he said. “And if that wasn’t working, I’d probably check out Mildred’s Island. These are a few of the major move-up spots where the bass are going to be moving up to spawn. I’d be fishing from 2 to 5 feet deep, and cover a lot of water with crankbaits.

“The Jackall MC/60 Crankbait SR and the Jackall Aska Shad are my go to crankbaits,” Meyer continued. “I’d probably throw some type of vibrator jig or chatterbait as well. You can always slow down and throw a drop-shot, and although there is not really a whole lot of stuff to punch right now, I might try to find some grass to flip.”

Recent reports have plenty of solid fish being caught on the Delta, and the winning angler could expect to have around 25 pounds.

Anglers will take off from Russo’s Marina located at 3995 Willow Road in Bethel Island, Calif., at 7 a.m. each day. Weigh-ins will be held each day at the take off site beginning at 3:00 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

Pros will fish for a top award of $35,000 plus a Ranger Z518 with a 200-horsepower Evinrude or Mercury outboard if Ranger Cup guidelines are met. Co-anglers will cast for a top award consisting of a Ranger 177TR with 90-horsepower Evinrude or Mercury outboard and $5,000 if Ranger Cup guidelines are met.

The EverStart Series consists of five divisions – Central, Northern, Southeast, Texas and Western. Each division consists of four tournaments and competitors will be vying for valuable points in each division that could earn them the Strike King Angler of the Year title along with $5,000 for the pro and $2,000 for the co-angler. The top 40 pros and co-anglers from each respective division will qualify for the EverStart Series Championship that will be held on the Ouachita River in Monroe, La., Nov. 1-4.

The EverStart Series tournament on the California Delta is being hosted by the City of Oakley.
