Fisheries Biologists Report Trout Survey Results from Lake Taneycomo (MO)

Lake-Taneycomo-2015-Trout-SamplingThe 2015 Lake Taneycomo trout electrofishing survey was conducted on August 19, 2015. Rainbow Trout were captured at a rate of 265 fish per hour in all zones combined, well within the range of normal variation.. Size structure continues to be good with body condition of rainbow trout being excellent. Their overall size structure has remained steady and fluctuated very little in the special regulation zone throughout the past 18 years following the regulation changes, indicating that the regulations are working. Rainbow trout were collected at a rate of 91 fish per hour. The largest rainbow trout collected in 2015 measured 22.7 inches and weighed 7.1 pounds.

The brown trout catch rate was 70 fish per hour. Size structure of Brown Trout was good, but was slightly lower than the previous two years of sampling, likely due to a surplus stocking of 11.5 inch Brown Trout in June 2015. Brown trout were 4% and within the established management objective of 3-6%. Their body condition is above average with an average relative weight. The increase in stocking of brown trout from 10,000 to 15,000 in the past five years has contributed greatly to the rebound of this

fishery and should be continued through 2016, marking the conclusion of the triploid brown trout stockings. The largest Brown Trout collected measured 30.3 inches and weighed 17.6 pounds.
