Plan Would Close Extensive Areas of S.E. Florida Coast to Fishing—Angler Support Needed This Week

Our Florida Reefs, who innocently call themselves a "community-based planning process," has proposed extensive "no take zones" all along the southeast Florida coast. They also want to turn management of these waters over to the Federal government by designating them as a National Marine Sanctuary.

Are you prepared for massive NO FISHING ZONES in some of Florida's most productive areas?

In some cases, limiting fishing can be an effective management tool, but it should be used as a last resort – not as a first choice. The main threats to these reefs come from increased water temperatures, water quality, and sedimentation – not recreational fishing. These proposals just don't make sense.

Keep Florida Fishing is asking its Florida members and the entire Florida sportfishing community to participate in the Our Florida Reefs (OFR) meeting taking place on June 1-2, from 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. 2nd Floor Royal Fern Hall, Fern Forest Nature Center, 201 Lyons Road South, Coconut Creek, Fla. 33063.

Attend this meeting or we could lose this fight!
