Which Frog to Throw…The Million Dollar Question

With the plethora of topwater frogs available to anglers today, selecting one is sometimes as difficult as a question on the ACT’s!  Snag Proof has different styles, sizes and colors of topwater hollow bodied frogs available for anglers that will excel in any situation an angler may face on the water.

I’ll use a frog that I can walk-the-dog with, when I’m fishing across matted vegetation or open water and then at key times, such as a missed strike or around a key isolated patch of grass, I’ll pause the bait and it will stay atop the top of the water.  The two key frogs in this situation are the Bobby’s Perfect and Ish’s phat Frog.

When I’m fishing the edge or open water with sparse vegetation I’ll use a frog that emits more action and acts just as a topwater plug would.  The Bobby’s Perfect Buzz and the new Wobbletron are great baits to use in these situations.

During the late spring or early summer months when bass are up shallow feeding on spawning bluegills or guarding fry balls, I like to use a frog that mimics activity in the shallow water.  This is when I’ll use the Ish’s Poppin’ Phattie as I can make a lot of activity in the shallow water to get the bass’s attention.  This frog is also my go to frog when fishing around shallow water cover other than vegetation, such as boat docks, riprap and laydowns.

As you continue to hit the water this summer, be sure to have a wide range of frogs with you as you want to make sure you are fishing the right frog for the given cover you are fishing on your favorite lake or river.
