Won Bass Lake Mead Tournament

Lake Mead, AZ - May 18, 19 2002

Well, here we are. It is #3 of the Won Bass Pro Am. I am at Lake Mead in Henderson, Nevada. The first day of practice I go out with Bret"The Big Shooter" Hite. He is in rare form and proceeds to school me by kicking my butt big time. He catches about 19 fish to my 0. Ouch! It wasn't like I didn't get the bites--I was off today. Everything went wrong; it was just one of those days. Well, better on a practice day than the tournament!

When it was all said and done, I had a great time. It is always a good day to be out on the water with my buddy Bret and he taught me his new favorite saying, "Night, Night." It is a little something he says every time he casts and he is about to catch a fish. Practice day #2 was a little more like it. I went out with my new good buddy Derek Yamamoto, owner of my sponsor Kinami Baits. We took off in search of Big Bessie. At first it was a little slow. Derek caught a few stripers, then I caught one. Then Derek got the first one on a Kinami Flash . Than I got a couple on the Green Pumpkin. Although the best part about today was having the chance to spend time with Derek, getting to know each other and I feel we really bonded. Like I have said before, there is no better place to bond and get to know what a person is really made of and what they are about. I was grateful for the opportunity to know my gut instinct was right. Derek is GOOD people and I am very happy to have him and Kinami on the team. Thank you, Jesus!

Well, I just got back from the partner pairing. I drew Steve Pike, a local of Lake Mead, and my good old buddy Fred Ward. We fished together last year on Lake Havasu at the Western Classic. So I am going to fix my tackle for tomorrow and get ready for a great day of fishing.

Well, day 1 got off to a sad start . We got news at the launch about some good friend of mine. Art Barry's' girlfriend Crystal had a real bad accident and things don't look good. This not only really broke my heart but put everything in prospective, what we do, why we do it, how lucky we are to be able to do the things we do, how precious each day, every moment is. I thank the Lord every day for waking me by habit, but it is times like these that make you realize how precious that prayer really is.

As I write this tournaments wrap-up, this is what is on my heart .I ask that even if you don't believe that you say a special prayer for my friends Art & Crystal .Ask for the Lord to give Art & his family strength & if it is His will could he spare Crystal? I know they would really appreciate this . It would mean a lot to me. At this point, I choose to write no more about this weekend and take a moment to, pray, think & count my blessings. Thank you to my sponsors Evinrude, Kaenon, Kinami, Kinesys, Phenix, Lowrance, Pradco, Stealth and Stratos.

God Bless

Sincerely,
