2007 Lake Havasu Striper Derby May 19-20th

Post by Bill Hutcheson »

Hello Striper Anglers,

2007 marks the 24th year of the Western Outdoor News Lake Havasu Striper Derby. Since its inception in 1983, the Striper Derby has hosted a total of 17,354 anglers - that’s 8,677 total teams – and given away millions of dollars in prizes including boats, trucks, trips, tackle, cash, and more! This grass roots oriented contest is a family affair that is perfectly suited for the novice angler all the way up to the seasoned veteran. We offer thousands of dollars in prizes including a grand raffle prize of a Yamaha powered boat package valued around $30,000.

I am pleased to once again be acting as your tournament director for this event. For those who are not familiar with the Striper Derby, This tournament is a family oriented contest with several angling categories including a Father/Son, Father/Daughter, Husband/Wife, and regular team divisions. Entry fee for this contest is $150 and includes a event hat and T-Shirt, sponsors goodie bag, Saturday BBQ lunch and beach party, and best of all, a shot at thousands of dollars in raffle prizes including the Grand Prize boat.

And as far as prizes go, there will be plenty to give away this year. While we are securing sponsors and product on a daily basis, we have already secured a Kingfisher Charters Alaska vacation package valued around $3,600, a Forever Resorts houseboat vacation worth $2,900, Shakespeare and Pflueger rod and reel combos valued at $5,000, a $1,200 Sea Eagle rigid inflatable, $1,000 in Bradley smokers, a $1,000 Yamaha generator, and much, much more as evidenced by the listing on our sponsors page within.

Contestants fish as a two-person team and may bring to the scales the largest 10 striped bass they can catch each day. Fishing will start at 5pm on Saturday and Sunday with the scales open from 11am to 2pm on Saturday and 9:00am to noon on Sunday. Fishing will run until 2:00pm at which time all anglers must be in line at the scales to have their fish weighed. The same will hold true for Sunday when fishing ends at 12 Noon.

Stick around because after the weigh-in on Saturday, its time to relax with the every popular Striper Derby beach party. Contestants will be treated to lunch while they listen to a the “Pirateâ€
