2500CI4 Spool problem.

Post by Gary Morris »

I purchased a spare spool for my 2500 CI4. It was my understanding that the 3000 spool would interchange so I purchased a spool p/n 14219, and adjusting nut p/n 14217 from Shimano. I ended up with an erratic or rough drag when using the 3000 set up.

When the nut is tightend down against the spool it does not run in a true circle and appears to look like the shaft is bent or somthing wrong with the spool.

The original spool and adjusting nut works fine.

The drag knob is different for the 3000 size spool. You will need that knob for the spool to work properly.

The part number for the 3000 spool is 14219 and the part number for the adjusting nut is 1
14217 which is what I am using together ?

If you have a 2500 reel with the 3000 spool then you will need the spool and dragh knob. The knob on the 2500 is different (RD13263). Are you sure you are using the correct drag knob? Try switching them and see if this makes a difference.

In my prior posts I have been calling the Drag Knob "adjustment knob". Sorry if we were not on the same page.

I have tried Switching the knobs and that does not work either.

The bore size is smaller on the 3000 Spool as well as the seal o.d. on the 3000 Drag Knob when compared to the 2500 spool and drag knob.

Send the reel and spools in to my attention. I'll get it figured out and make sure you end up with a properly working spool.

Gary,

I received your reel today. It looks like an issue with the drag knob. I'm trouble shooting it right now. I hope to have it figured out today and back out to you tomorrow.
