Any break-in period for new transmission?

Post by norbert gee »

After 144K miles my transmission went out. Just got a "new" factory remanufactured one put in and my mechanic said it's ok to start towing my bassboat right away since it doesn't weigh all that much. What do you guys think? Should I wait until I put some mileage on first? Don't want to do anything that might shorten the life of my new transmission? Thanks.

I would wait for at least 500 miles before towing.

I had mine completely rebuilt in my previous truck - about 5 years ago. The shop told me to not tow or haul any loads until I had gone at least 500 miles. Working 50 miles away from home at the time made it pretty easy to get there.
