The first tournament of the season for Region 7 of the Calif. Bass Federation (CBF) is at Castaic on Sat. 1/21/17. Entries must be mailed in by Tues 1/17/17. The entry form and membership info can be found on the CBF website http://www.californiabass.org.

CBF Regional tournaments are Draw format (Boaters and Non-Boaters are paired up through a random draw) and one of the few opportunities for Non-Boaters to fish tournaments at our local lakes. CBF tournaments are low pressure and fun, yet are a competitive environment.

CBF Region 7 typically draws a mixture of club level anglers, novices, seasoned veterans, some of the top anglers from team circuits, and occasionally pro level anglers. These tournaments are a great place to hone your tournament skills, meet new anglers, and learn new techniques. CBF is a non-profit organization that is designed for club and local anglers to have some fun and have a shot at higher level events.

CBF Region 7 2017 Schedule
1/21/17 Castaic
2/26/17 Pyramid
3/12/17 Castaic
5/6/17 Pyramid

Anglers at the CBF Regional tournaments compete for prize money and also points which are needed to qualify for the CBF State Championship tournament. The CBF State Championship and The Bass Federation (TBF) National Semi Final are the steps to the TBF National Championship where the grand prize – the ‘Living the Dream’ prize package – is awarded.

The Living the Dream package is valued at around $100,000 and includes a prize check, fully paid entry fees on the FLW Tour as a Pro, travel expense stipends for each event, and use of a “Living the Dream” wrapped Ranger boat for the year. The national champion will also advance to the world championship of bass fishing, the Forrest Wood Cup. More info can be found on the TBF website: TBF Living the Dream

The CBF State Championship, the TBF National Semi Final and the FLW National Championship are Ranger Cup sanctioned events, where qualified Ranger Boat owners are eligible to win Ranger sponsored prizes.

If you have questions contact me. My contact information can be found on the CBF website http://www.californiabass.org.

CBF Region 7 is sponsored by Anglers Marine, Rod Glove, and Peregrine 250.

Soon Chul Lee only needed 30 min to land a 5 fish limit of mixed largemouth and smallmouth weighing 12.33 at CBF Region 7’s first tournament of the year at Castaic on 1/21/17. Soon, who was Region 7 AOY in 2013, reported that he was in the ‘right place at the right time’ because he was around fish that were actively feeding. He caught his fish on drop shot and creature baits in 5’ of water.

Doug Engh came in 2nd place with 3 fish for 6.24lbs. Doug, who fished as a nonboater for this event, was also in the right place at the right time because he was Soon’s draw partner for the day. Doug is also a past Region 7 AOY and he reported catching his fish on a drop shotted Oxblood Lt Red Flake worm.

Cliff Gregory took 3rd place with 5.67lbs which included the Big Fish of the tournament which weighed in at 3.98lbs (with an adjusted weight of 3.48lbs due to 0.5lb penalty for dead fish). Cliff reported catching his fish on creature baits and a drop shot in 15-20’.

Jason Laza took 4th place with 5.26lbs. Jason reported catching his fish on ice jigs in about 40’. Whitney Uyeda got 5th place with a 3.11lb fish he caught on a R2S S-Waver glide bait. Ronnie Kim was first out of the money and he won a $50 gift certificate from Anglers Marine and a set of Rod Glove rod protectors.

Pete Graves served up a delicious barbecue lunch of hamburgers, potato salad, beans, sodas, chips, and more for Region 7 anglers. Pete does this out of the kindness of his heart - many thanks go to Pete for putting this on for the anglers.

CBF is a non-profit organization that is directly affiliated with The Bass Federation (TBF) and FLW. CBF championship events are Ranger Cup eligible. CBF anglers are eligible for a Ranger Federation Team package when they purchase a new Ranger Boat.

Regional 7 anglers may qualify for championship events by competing for and accumulating points in regional events. Championship events include the CBF State Championship, TBF National Semi Final, TBF National Championship, and the FLW Cup Championship. More information can be found at californiabass.org.

The next tournament for CBF Region 7 is at Pyramid on 2/25/17.

CBF Region 7 is sponsored by Anglers Marine, Rod Glove, and Peregrine 250.
