Post by WB Staff »

From ABC

CLEAR LAKE, Calif. (KGO) --
A fast-moving brush fire that has grown to 3,000 acres prompted evacuations in the Lower Lake area near Clear Lake in Lake County Wednesday afternoon.

Calfire has dispatched six air tankers and at least 200 firefighters to fight the flames.

The fire broke out in the southern part of Clear Lake, north of a fire burning near Lake Berryessa.

Watched this fire from the lake during the WNS. The hills behind Lowerlake are ablaze. Crazy scenery for an evening of Bassin.

Guys, be careful if the smoke settles in and gets trapped in the lake basin. Many years ago I fished CL for several days in similar smoky conditions and ended up with lung issues kind of like asthma. I then heard a news report on the radio that firefighters were having lung issues because so much poison oak had burned and the poison oak oil particles apparently travel with the smoke and can mess up your lungs if you breath in too much of it. And if you are allergic to poison oak like so many are...it can really create problems.

It is amazing how much stuff burns, and how bad it is for living things.

Mark...good point! Lots of "stuff" might be burning up there. By the way, I hear the pizza joints are much busier than normal... imagine that!

This thing is really starting to become ugly....Evacuations are now all along the Eastside of Highway 53 from Lower Lake North to Highway 20 in the Oaks....including East Clearlake.

Smoke and ash is now getting really bad. I'd suggest staying away until this one calms down. John is correct in that all of this ash is not good for vehicles, boats, or humans......Dan

18,000 acres and still growing. No smoke or ash in Lakeport this morning, if you are going fishing I wouldn't come thru the highway 20 area.6-7 years ago the lake was covered with smoke for a week but the topwater bite was great!I

jumped to 47K acres overnight still just 5% contained. Highway 20 closed from the Oaks to Williams and 16 is closed as well. If that's not bad enough another one popped up in Lucerne last night,,,,,,

Over 60,000 acres now .There has only been one day since the fire started that the lake has been smoky. You can still get to the ramps coming form 29 , 175 or 101. 20 is closed. The jig bite is the best its been all year.

Guys, think twice if you are going fishing. Breathing burning poison oak or poison ivy will put you in the hospital. Even if there is no smoke on the lake, it is still in the air.

The wind pretty much everyday blows from the north down the lake. Pushing the smoke away. It's been fine all week.
