Discovery Bay Stripers

Post by sean alarid »

Is the bite on in there yet. I'm gonna be dropping my aluminum boat at my buddy's house on the marina side on Thursday and wondering if its to early yet?

Head in to Kellog and have fun with anything you want to throw at them.

Rich,

Where in Discovery Bay is Kellogg. I would like to take my grandson fishing where he can catch something.

Reel Guy,

Kellogg Creek is on the western side of Discovery Bay. The eastern side is the "marina" side. So just think of Kellogg as the opposite side of the marina.

It's easy to get to from Indian slough and Orwood marina. It's the main thoroughfare for all the boats to navigate out and in from that side of disco.

This side offers a lot of bays to fish and typically has more stained and shallower water than the marina side.

If taking your grandson, try getting out there extremely early at first light because the stripers will show themselves with boils and crashing bait. Toss a rattle trap or swimbait and you'll hook up instantly. Also look for the gulls and terns diving or circling in the air. That's a telltale sign that there's bait and possibly stripers nerarby.

Share the pics with us after your trip. I love seeing family fishing photos. That's what it's all about!

I personally like the Marina side and deep water after Thanksgiving for the first couple of weeks. They have more lights at night for night fishing bringing them to the surface with cleaner water.

When we get some solid cold weather/nights ... Then they then tend to migrate to the Kellog side for the warmer water temps.

As the water gets colder -- They will follow the shad back to the end to Cove bay. But early on -- Cabrillo and Sand bays can STACK up with Shad and Stripers on any given moment. Image
You know, we always called each other goodfellas. Like, you'd say to somebody: "You're gonna like this guy; he's all right. He's a goodfella. He's one of us." You understand? We were goodfellas, wiseguys.
