Hey Ron I was just voiceing my opinion which is what people do here...

I meant no disrespect to you and this tournament...
Its gonna be Awesome!!

I was just responding to the start of your post

Quote:
(Who is the Heavyweight Bass Champion? Is it one of the Bass Posse? Is it one of the Bass Outlaws? Is it one of the other Big Bait specialists? Or is it someone who we have never even heard of before? Let’s find out and settle this once and for all.)

People want to know "WHOS THE BEST BIG BAIT FISHERMEN?"
We see that all the time on the time posted.
I just thought it would be cool to realy find out given those limitations!!

LOL! sorry about the spelling errors I guess I do need to pop a LIFTOFF!!

The lake should be off the beaten course. It will be unfair to the guys from the north and south to fish against veteran Casitas guys. True big fish talent would be shown on a unfamiliar body of water to all contestants. I know you guys are going to switch from north to south in the future but I can Guarentee you a local will win 2 out of 3 time's.

I think you should find a lake that see's very few tournaments and go their, no pre-fishing allowed. Then you will truely see who is consistant on finding big fish!!!!

There will be "locals" no matter what lake we fish. How many lakes "off the beaten path" have a multitude of fish over 10 lbs swimming around in them? Not too many I suspect. I suppose Clear Lake, the Delta, Casitas, and a SD lake or two.

The So. Cal guys weren't too happy about the TOC being at Havasu either where the "locals" destroyed the competition, but this is only for ONE fish, one BIG fish. Anyone can get lucky and get the big bite. Anyone well versed in big fish baits has a great shot no matter their home lake.

This thing has to start somewhere, why not at the lake near the guy who came up with the idea?

No offense taken, Mike. We've known each other too long for that. We're all good.

And you are correct - we are all entitled to our own opinions. I just think it only fair to allow this event to take place before judgment is passed on it. If it fails, I will be the first to acknowledge it; but if it is successful (as I believe it will be), then allow it to stand and grow on its own merit. That's all I ask.

As for me , like I posted earlier Im all in . I always thought it would be cool fishing for one bite and no pressure to fill the limit . On another note it would have been cool to keep it to big baits only . Regardless its going to be fun . Good job Ron. Will the lake be off limits Mon. threw Thurs. ?

If you want to make a true "Best of the Best" competition, make it an invitational. Put it on an obscure lake, where figuring out the big fish bite quickly comes into play. Make it a 3 day competition to eliminate the "Lucky Bite" scenario.

Yeah you need to be a part of it as much as the Joffrey Ballet needs to be in a mosh pit at a Suicidal Tendencies gig. But stage dive into the audience of the "Dr. Phil" if it makes ya feel betta. I hope a split shot fisherman or jig master takes it home.

Few quick questions. A lot of times when I trophy hunt out of my boat I like to anchor up on a point and throw. Are we going to be able to do that? 2nd question. When I throw the huge wood, 12inch and better, I use a Loomis PSR10820-C rod. Are we going to be able to take the 9 foot sticks or are we subject to the Dee Thomas rule of only 8 foot or less? Third, How is the draw going to be for the blast off? Maybe the farthest traveled to the tourny gets the earlier blast off. I know I will be traveling over 400 miles to get to a lake that I have never seen and will not be able to prefish due to my schedule. Thanks in advance and cant wait to see everyone at bassathon. This year will be special

How about fishing from shore??? You could have your observer just follow me around, and even carry some of my stuff for me!

Sheez people... get real!!! You're going to drive Ron off before it even gets off the ground with all the BS!

This will be VERY COOL Ron! Love the idea for the series.

This is really a great idea and something that can really get BIG on a national level with TV or something. Who wouldn't want to watch some guys chucking wood all day pulling in the big girls??

I am wondering what the rule will be with regards to catch and release as well as dead fish penalties. I can just see somebody catching a 15 pounder and weighing it in dead and all the bad press that would get.

Also, not everybody fishing this thing will have 100 10pounders under their belt. Some guys catch a 15 pounder, they will want to keep it to get it mounted. Again, if this happens, it will really sour a lot of bass anglers around the world and cause bad press.

I really think this would be the coolest thing ever to watch on TV as far as bass fishing goes, but I think the last thing people will want to see is even 1 dead double digit fish!

Great idea, but I hope there are stiff penalties for dead fish and catch and release only rules. If you don't release your fish, you are banned.

anyone kills fish for the purpose of having a mount made anymore. Just a photo and a measurement is all most good Taxidermist need these days. As far as a dead fish goes, probably more die than we will ever know, but it is your right by law to eat 5 a day on most lakes. Gotta have a license though. Sorry, just the cold hard facts. Rick G.

Ron, you might want to consider a C & R boat to pick up any bass requested by the contestant to limit the time in the fishermans live well. This really helps the survival rate and may generate some on shore marina interest during the tournament.
Departure time based on entry number or draw?
I know you want this to be a level playing field, however you have pro's completing agianst amatuers and how are you going to control scouting & networking with $10K at stake?

Ron C, format to consider;
Divide lake Casitas into 3 zones; run a line from the south buoy line through the big island to the north shore. Everything to the east of the line is zone 1, west is zone 2. The closed area from the buoy line, dam to west end of Aryers is zone 3.
The field is divided into 3 groups, each group fishing 2 1/2 hours in each zone, rotating to the next zone.
The cost of opening zone 3, is about $25 per boat with 48 boats; $225.00 X 48 = $10,800, still allows for a $10,000 winner.
The 12 boat per zone reduces issues within each zone and gives every particpant a real good oportunity to catch some giant bass, or possible world record, in zone 3.
With this format my check is in the mail.

i like this...as far as leveling the playing feild. Its going to be tough, thats the whole point of this so the "average joe's" can go up against the best. No matter who wins this event, its only one day. You cant give or take away too much credit to the big names out there.

I am not afraid to fish anyplace any time against anyone for one big fish. I am comming down.....just about any lake up north here has fish over 10 excluding Millerton LOL!! If I do find a few of those hot spots down there hope I don't get there first
One day or three it is the same for all. People always try to make things work for them or feel more time would make the deference. Go with what Ron says and don't try to make more to it. It seems also in all this people look for things to do not listed in rules
I like to just say SHUT UP & FISH!!!!
All in fun boys But I will be in line!
LET THE GAMES BEGIN!!
See you all there. Deal or no Deal LOL!

Hey Ron...
Will there be an official "line up" time for the sign in @ the bass-a-thon? Can we camp out the night before to guarantee a spot in the tourney? Is there any kind of pecking order?
Ha...That'll be a real sight to see....A bunch of dudes freezing their nuts off in the middle of the night looking like they're waiting for the Rose Parade to stroll by the next morning......Or tickets to a Bon Jovi concert in 1988..........Brilliant!

Ron, looks great to me. I also hope that all the big names can make it(todd holder and larry elshire are both hoping they make it to the bassathon on time). Spoke with Ken Huddleston a couple of days ago and I will be helping sponsor the tourney. Have we got a list of promises from these big guys. Ken and I have talking about a tourney like this for years. I have sat around thinking about an invitational tournament series for many hours. Here at my tackle shop I have had the chance to see the developement of big baits(renowsky 6" trouts were considered big baits in the late 80's). This is a great time to once again show thier importance. thanks for putting it together and give me a call for help. Eric Huff (eric's tackle) 805-648-5665

Ron, What time does the bass-a-thon start. I'd like to be an observer but have 3-4 hour drive to get there, just need to know how soon I need to leave to get in what will probably be a long line. Will there be a specific place to sign up...etc.

I am not going to "bust a move" to get into this event as I should be at the BAT working at the Sunline booth. If there happen to be spots open at the end of the day, I will then sign up. I prefer to give the "BIG names" in big bass fishing a chance to sign up first. I think due to the nature of the event it would have been OK to invite the top 20 or so big fish "names" to fish the event and give them until the BAT to sign up (so they don't have to bust their hump and get in line like in the "old days" fer a popular band in concert) then start open registration fer the remaining spots at the BAT.

IMHO or as some contend NSHO, the event will lose some of it prestige if the "BIG names" aren't able to get in because they couldn't get in the front of the line at the BAT. Otherwise, everything is fine as it stands.

Good Job Ron fer stepping up wit dis one :!:

ps. It will be interesting to see how the "floatilla" of lookyloos/spectator boats will effect the outcome of this event. It the floatilla gets big, my money is on the deep finesse experts! ie. Jerry B.

I beg to differ, About EVERY lake in the Central Valley has 10+ fish!!! ! Maybe in the future you can meet in the middle and get more boats on a bigger lake with toads aplenty in the Big Valley!
