I am going to get into tying my own jigs....

Post by Jason C. »

I got the pot, I got the lead and I know what kind of skirt I want. The big question is where do I buy the molds and what kind of hooks should I buy? Not brand but style as in like an off set hook or a straight shank hook? Please let me know!!! Thanks for any help in advance its greatly appreciated!!

The hook style may be determined by the type of mold or head style you have chosen. Most molds require a fairly specific hook type to fit the channel provided. Some use a 60 degree bend, others use a 90...You need to pick a head style, pick out a mold, and buy hooks recomended for that mold.

Visit Do-It Molds' website. It might help you decide on the jigmold and the hooks that will go with it.

It's a lot of fun to make your own jigs.

Didnt you just spend the day in the boat with the master?? (Bobby D) You should ask him. He can steer you in the right direction.

Cooch

No ban yet Mike!

Just heavily regulated. No fishing products can be introduced into California without a bloody "lead" warning label.

Jason,
Now I'm giving you my lead pot, 20 lbs or so of pure lead for trouble free pouring. Design your "own" jig, not a knockoff of someone elses, do that and I'll put one of our CNC machining centers to work and machine you a set of molds. Of course then I will get free jigs for life! 8)

THERE IS REALLY NO BETTER FEELING THAN , TAKING A BARE HOOK, ATTACHING SOME LEAD WEIGHT TO IT AS IN FORM OF JIG HEAD, ETC, PAINTING THE HEAD TO YOUR LIKING, TYING ON A SKIRT OF YOUR OWN COLOR CHOICE, AND ACTUALLY CATCHING A BASS ON IT. ALL DONE YOURSELF. NOW THE ONLY THING THAT MAKES IT BETTER IS IF YOU BUILT THE ROD ALSO ...
