HDS-10 Questions

Post by Comanche Bill »

I recently purchased two HDS-10's and they are networked together. I have each unit's source selected as "This unit", but it appears that both units are reading off the trolling motor transducer when both units are left on at the same time. As a fish appears on the front unit it also appears at the same time and same location on the dash unit. If I drop my drop shot down, I see it going down on both units. How can I get the units to read independantly of each other? I also seem to losing the bottom when traveling from location to location where I did not have that problem with my LCX-38's? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Bill

Go to each of your HDS 10's, turn the units on and go through this process with each unit. Hit Menu twice, go to Network and hit enter. Go down to Data Sources and hit enter, go to Sonar and hit enter. Go down to Depth, now hit Menu. Go down to Scope and hit enter, go to Local and hit enter. This will make the unit use the transducer that is plugged into the back of each unit. Global is the choice is you want to share devices between units.

As for loosing the bottom at speed, make sure Fishing Mode is in Shallow Water and put the model number of the transducer into the Transducer type box. To make these settings, hit Menu twice and go to Sonar and hit enter. Go down to Fishing Mode and choose Shallow Water. Hit exit once and go down to Installation and hit enter. Now go down to Transducer type and hit enter. The list of transducers that Lowrance makes comes up. Look at the chrome tag on the transducer cable that is plugged into the back of the unit, find this model number on the list, go down to that number and hit enter. This will insert that transducer in the box and the unit will know which ducer it is using to find and keep the bottom. Before you hit exit, be sure you SAVE your settings or you will have to do it all over again.

Also make sure under the menu for Sonar that you turn off the menu choice of "Network Sonar".

I would also suggest you make sure your ping speed is set to 18 or higher. Increasing ping speed can improve bottom readings at high speeds if set too low. You will also get the full benefit of the target separation capabilities of these HDS units by choosing 18 or higher on the ping speed (factory default setting is only 15). Hope this helps!
