HDS ?'s

Post by TCS »

Thinking about putting the hds 7 at the console and an hds 5 at the front. if i network the two together will i be able to view the gps map and sonar up front on the hds 5? if so, does the hds 7 unit have to be on and will that interfere with the front sonar?

You can network two HDS units together to share sonar data but mapping data that is loaded into one unit cannot be shared with another unit. To share sonar data, that is to share one transducer with two units, both units must be on. The only time sonar interference happens between two HDS units is when both are on and using their own transducers. Then each unit will pick up the return from the other one's ducer and show small vertical lines on the screen. This is because it is the same language so to speak, but the unit doesn't recognize the ping because it doesn't match what it sent out so the unit doesn't know what to do with it. So we get this faint, narrow vertical line on our screen.

On the HDS units you can put the console unit on Standby while you are up front fishing. This will turn off the transducer so there is no interference on the screen. Then when you get back behind the wheel to go to the next spot just hit the power key and exit and the unit is back on instantly. No boot up required.
