HDS5 Quit Working in Rain

Post by GregD »

The HDS5 that is mounted in the console of the boat I bought (used) 2 months ago... quit working this past Saturday while I was fishing on New Melones. Weather conditions were pretty harsh with a lot of rain and wind driven waves.

At first it acted like it wanted to work when I tried to turn it back on, but the screen would just display a bunch of random colors as if the computer inside had died or was not getting the right voltage. Eventually nothing would come up when I pushed the power button. I verified that 12 V is still getting to the unit so I'm guessing water got inside and caused the unit to crap out.

I don't have the original receipt but the guy I bought the boat from said he had purchased it recently. Does anyone know if Lowrance will honor the warranty even though I'm not the original purchaser? I have the S/N of course.

Thanks, Greg
