HDS7 G2Touch HDI Transducer Install Q

I am about to install a new HDS7 Gen2 Touch in my 2001 Skeeter ZX225. The unit comes with the HDI transducer, which I've heard works optimally as a skimmer (transom mounted) and "so so" as a through the hull transducer. I traditionally steered away from skimmer transducers, and am not even quite sure where I'd mount this one on a Skeeter (due to the tiered back end of the hull and transom configuration). Still, I don't want to give up the HDI benefits (in order to get the benefits of the DownScan Imaging)... unless I have to.
