Post by kensnider »

What is the basin like at Almanor in late July and August. Any suggestions on what to use and where to fish. Thanks in advance

Smallmouth bass will move to off-shore structure in July and August as the water warms and starts dropping. There is a lot of off-shore structure like rockpiles, underwater islands, and stumps. If you are going to fish the shoreline, look for the steeper rocky areas. You won't find many quality bass hanging in shallow flats without some deep water nearby. Night fishing is good in the summer! You would do well to cast or drag a Carolina Rigged Robo worm behind the boat. I do that all the time. Drop-shotting is very effective in the summer with Robo worms in morning dawn, craw, or shad patterns. Try 20 to 40 foot depths. Fish shadows in the morning and evening for as long as you can. Five inch Senkos in green/brown colors always work. Maybe add a little weight during the day. Hope this helps!

Just got back from Almanor. Majority of bass have left the shallows. Been there in August and had good success with dbl willow spinnerbait when the wind comes up. On the offshore structure slow roll a paddletail swimbait if you get tired of throwin plastics. Jackall ryhtym wave
