Losing signal at speed
I have a 997 SI with a transom mounted transducer.
When I go about 7 mph, I lose both my sonar and side/bottom imaging, and my depth readings.
Is there anything I can do to avoid that?

lower the mount. sounds like transducer is coming out of the water

I AM NOT SAYING THERE SHOULD BE CAPITAL PUNISHMENT FOR STUPIDITY,
BUT, WHY DON'T WE JUST TAKE THE SAFETY LABELS OFF OF EVERYTHING
AND LET THE PROBLEM SOLVE ITSELF?"

It's set so it's just below the bottom of the hull.
Anglers Marine installed it, so I know it's set right.
Do the Lowrance SI units also lose signal at speed?

when they come out of water they all do.
you need to look at the transducer while under way. sometimes moving it down just a hair more will fix your issues.

Re: Losing signal at speed
Right now, I can't move my transducer any lower, because it rests on my trailer's bunk board. I will need to move it nearer to the side of the boat to clear the bunk, and I'm not sure the water there will be clear of bubbles.
I'll try it and see if it helps.

Re: Losing signal at speed
Is it you 2D(standard) ducer AND your 3D (down/side imaging ducer) thats mounted outside the hull? My boat has lowrnace so may be different, but I have a 2D glued down in the hull, and my 3D(lss2) mounted outside the hull on the jack plate.
I remember reading about using a "Y" cable with the bird set up to be able to fix this. So you can have two transducers and switch(to the through hull)when getting on plane.
That sounds like very low speeds to be loosing bottom in any case.

Re: Losing signal at speed
My boat came with a 2D tranducer mounted down in the bottom of the hull, for thru hull use, but my SI transducer is transom mounted.
Will a Lowrance 2D transducer work with a Humminbird?

Re: Losing signal at speed
You have a switch or Y Cable connecting the 2 transducers? The shoot thru hull transducer will produce the 2D readings all the time and the SI transducer will only produce the SI and DI when off plane speeds. This video may help you better understand how the AS SI DB Y Cable works:
Skeeter, Yamaha, MinnKota, Humminbird, Dobyns, LakeMaster, Transducer Shield & Saver, LuckyCraft, Daiwa, Dave's Custom Baits, OMEGA Tackle, Elite Tungsten, Angler Innovation, Massey Ferguson

Re: Losing signal at speed
Does that mean that the transducer in my hull will work with my Humminbird, even if it's a Lowrance transducer? I think that's what Ranger installed at the factory.

Re: Losing signal at speed
Good news. I moved the transducer on the transom down a little, and now my unit reads when I'm on plane.
Thanks everyone here for their advice.
