The biggest mistake people make is not doing the maintenance on not only their boats but their tackle as well. I use Shimano Curados for a reason. Not only are they quality reels they take very little maintenance.

If you don’t take care of your boat it will not take care of you. And like your boat you do not want your reel to give up in the middle of a battle with a 4 or 5 pound fish. I have had that happen with a different brand of reel.

I am a little more meticulous than some about my equipment. I clean and oil my reels regularly. I had a reel freeze up in a fight with a 4½ pound fish in a tournament once. Fortunately the reel gave up at the end of the fight and I was able to pull the fish in by hand.

I don’t take that chance anymore. I check my batteries, I check my oil levels I check my bearings I sharpen my hooks and then I go fish.

I will talk with Rick today to see what I can do. Now is the time to have your boat serviced or at the very least checked before you go to to any of the fish offs. Whether you're going to Clear lake, Mead or Havasu you do not want to break down during the tournament.
