Phil,

The official Mercury decals are pretty expensive. You can have the companies that do vinyl lettering make up a custom decal for you. The price will be less and you can make them unique for your boat.

The ones on my motor were made for me by a company here in Sacramento. Unfortunately they are no longer in business.

Great idea. I think I'll order up some decals for a 4 stroke motor and get back on some of those lakes that banned 2 strokes.

Phil,

I'm presuming that you are talking about the decals on your engine that were mentioned in a prior post. If so, you need to apply gradual heat via hair dryer until the decal becomes soft then you can start peeling it off. Keep heat on the decal and continue peeling until it is completely removed. Depending on how long the decals have been on the paint, gelcoat, etc there may be a color difference underneath the decal compared to the surrounding area. If you are putting the exact same decal back on the color difference isn't a problem. But, if the new decal doesn't cover the same or larger area you mayhave some color difference where the old decal was.

Newer decals are easier to remove. Older decals will be a little more difficult because they are more brittle than newer ones.

Believe it or not, we used to remove decals using hairspray..I don't know if it would still work or not, but the old hairsprays had just enough acetone in them to get the job done and not damage the finish..I would go with Norvals way of removal..

Blow dryer works, if you have any left over residue, use some WD-40 or GooGone to remove it.
