I have local Frogs and Toads running around littles ones , some are big. I know Bass really like live bait and heard that Frogs are usually what they eat. Is this time of the year good for Bass to eat Frogs? I dont want to get my hands dirty for no reason, now dont get me wrong. I will get my hands dirty but just hooking a minnow can get very messy.
The reason why I want to use something live instead of what I have been using(Texas Rig w/ 4 " Purple Twirl Tail worm.) is because that I get alot of bites at a certain time but when the bugs come out my luck suddenly changes and I feel that the reason why is because the fish are looking for Live bait.
(If you dont know already im fishing in Hughson N. Cal 209 Area) Little River near by. I have Caught Stipers and Smallies here)
Will worms work to? Or Maybe me catching bugs?
My Local Frogs as live bait? Is it even worth getting dirty?

if your going to use frogs be careful
there are endangered and protected species of frogs in california. The reason your luck changes I dont feel has any thing to do with bugs its just the time of day you need to switch up tactics, try throwing topwater baits or something larger that will make more turbulance in the water.

Good bait....
One of my favorite baits when I was a kid, fishin those ponds was those little bullfrogs about 2-3 inches long. They're not endangered, actually they're an invasive specie. Just get a bright flashlight and go after dark or early morning. Shine it right in there eyes and pick up as many as you need, just leave the little toads and tree frogs alone. Hook em through the lips with a #2, and weightless. Toss em out there and let em kick around for awhile and hold on, you can't go wrong here.

There is a species of Leopard frog
in the area that if you dont know what your doing can be mistaken for bull frogs well as some other species that are protected due to polution. I think it would be easier to catch some craw dads with a snoopie pole and hot dog than mess with frogs. Number one lunker getter out there.

Is there like a Chart that shows What to use at certain times of the year and/or day, I rather leave the frogs alone as well as the Crawdads. Its just that I wish there was like a time frame out there that shows What fish want at certain times.
Yeah, I think I got one! Nope, just another bite.

Summer time, crawdads and large minnows, if you want to use live bait.

Hey DarlBlades
Everyone wishes they had a chart like that..In all honesty a bass is just a little different than a lot of other fish in that they will eat just about anything at just about anytime..Now of course this does not apply to every single bass out there, just bass in general..I have caught them on top waters when everyone was telling me that it couldn't be done..I have caught them in shallow water when everyone told me they are deep..I think that is what intrigues me the most about bass, just about the time you think you have them figured out, they go and change on you..For the most part both large mouth and small mouth bass are going to feed on the primary food available in their area..Now at the same time they are going to eat anything that happens to wonder their way that looks reasonably appetizing to them..All I can say is you just gotta keep chunkin and sooner or later you will find something they want..It isn't always easy, if it were we would all be fishing in the classic..

Here is a web site that claims to have " the chart" you are looking for. Could be a good guide in getting you started. http://www.bassresearch.com/
