ford ranger

Post by drilltrash »

looking to buy a used boat here soon and needed some help on the size. i believe im kinda limited due to my small pickup. i own a 2003 ford ranger super cab, v6 3.0, its a manual transmission, 2WD. i was wondering what size boat i can tow with this pickup. looking to go to clear lake/shasta. the specs i found online state that the max loaded trailer weight is 2340 lbs. dont know what boats weigh. just lookin for some input, dont want to buy a boat and then not be able to tow it till i get another truck! thanks in advance.

Well you are limited to aluminum or a small 16' glass boat. I have an 05 Nitro 640LX/75 Optimax combo that hits the scale at 2370lbs boat, motor, gear, gas, and trailer.

I pulled My Nitro 1 time from LAX area to Casitas with my work truck - a Mitsubishi Mighty Max 5spd 4cyl - Not fun at all. It accually towed it beter than expected but stopping was a chore. That is the main reason for the light capacity numbers on the smaller trucks.

I tow my 19.5 ft skeeter with a 2000 ranger v6 4.0 liter when the wife needs the tahoe and the ranger handles it pretty well i'm surprised. I also tow a 1990 ski nautique with it.
