Speedmaster

Post by offduty »

I have a 201 speedmaster that is a few years old. I was using it for punchin and had the drag locked down tight. Now the drag slips so bad it is unuseable. What happened and can I fix it by replacing washers for the drag? I can replace them myself but where can I order them?

Unfortunately, sounds like it's time for a new reel. Parts are almost impossible to find for those reels now.
Bantam1 may have another option but I doubt it.

There might be some aftermarket drag washers available.

I think its time to move on and buy something new. This reel has probably more than paid for itself over the years. These were made in the late 80's. That is over 20 years of service. The new reels outperform this reel in every way. I think you will be much happier with a new model.

The Speedmaster that was sold a few years ago during the mid-2000s? Doesn't that model share identical gear sets with the Curado DHSV--if so, drags should be plentiful. It's the JDM deep spool version CU-200DHSV isn't it?

He did not specify he had the JDM model reel. This is why I think it might be the older model Speedmaster reel we used to offer in the US.

Here is a pic of a similar reel.

That should be the same reel as the Curado 200DHSV. You can order the drag washer for the Curado and install it. 877-577-0600

Can I upgrade to a better drag washer the one I had in did not last long?

There is nothing we offer. The stock washer should last a while with proper maintenance. There could have been a lack of grease on the washer from the factory which led to the premature failure.
