LMS 520c Issues

Post by The Herminator »

Have had the graph a little over a year. It worked fine when I first installed it but the past 7 or 8 months it has not been working correctly. I keep losing the bottom reading and it will flash every once in a while with an inaccurate depth. This happens very randomly. Here are some pics of the issue:

Do I need a new transducer? What will that cost?

Any other ideas?

Thanks!

Check the software in the 520. Make sure it is 2.5, if not go to lowrance.com and update the unit.

Take the unit to another location that works correctly and plug it in there. If the unit works fine there, then it is your transducer that is bad.

If the unit still doesn't work properly then check the sensitivity and play with it to see if increasing it helps.

While in the sonar screen, hit menu and go to sonar options and make sure the "Fishing Mode" is in "Shallow Water".

Try these things and re-post to let me know what you find out.

Thanks Ken...I'll try your suggestions and let you know. What do you mean by take the unit to another location and plug it in there? Should I take it to a retail store? Just not sur eI follow you on that one. Thanks!

I'm thinking that most bass boats have two units on them, one at the console and one at the bow. Let's say the 520 with issues was at the bow, take it and plug it in at the console (providing the power and transducer are Lowrance blue connectors) and assuming that the console unit works fine indicating the transducer at the console is working, and see if it works there. This would tell you if the problem is with the transducer at the bow or if the unit still demonstrates the same issues then it is the unit.
