Have you ever been on Clearlake in the Spring when every 25 yards there is a boat wielding a swimbait from both the front and back deck? Or have you ever snagged something on the bottom just to reel in someone else's swimbait that they broke off? It doesn't take a genius to realize our fish are getting conditioned.
Every year more and more anglers pick up the swimbait in pursuit of a giant bass. The bigger fish are quickly growing weary of the same old baits. There are all sorts of modifications you can do to make your bait look different from the rest. Some of these modifications are expensive and can ruin baits if they aren't done right. Here are two that are very simple:
-Adding lifelike gills
-Adding fins
These two modifications don't take more than a minute or two to complete, can be done to any soft swimbait, and will help you get more bites on whatever bait it is you like to throw.
