Check out the Santa Margarita Monster!
Check out the Santa Margarita Monster!
New lake record caught today by Joe Alanis of Clovis, CA. 14.33 lbs. of Monster Bass goodness. He used skill beyond my understanding to land this fish on 6lb. test.

Re: Check out the Santa Margarita Monster!
All,
Our club went there last spring for the first time and MAN oh MAN what a beautiful place. The fishing was good, the surroundings is simply amazing. We had our campsite right on the water...you could literally beach your boat and walk to the site. Sunset was something to see..
If you haven't been, I would definitely check it out.
Oh, as for that beautiful bass, she is a beauty...there are lots of big ones up there hiding in the bushes and trees.

That fish is a Florida according to the Ranger who counted the lateral spots or something.Chris N wrote:Epic! Are they still pure northerns in Margarita?

Re: Check out the Santa Margarita Monster!
The scales along the lateral line can be counted to roughly determine if it has some FL strain in its genetic makeup. All fish except those that live naturally south of Lake Okeechobee are intergrades or northerns.
Micropterus salmoides floridanus has 69 to 73 scales along the lateral line, compared to 59 to 65 on the northern largemouth
