Saturday's Delta catches

In the spirit of welcoming the new float tube, kickboat and kayak area to the forum, coverage of today's Bass-n-Tubes bass tournament on the Delta is below.

Bass-n-Tubes is a Northern California float tube, kickboat and kayak bass fishing club. Their website states they welcome anglers of any skill level and all ages to come on out and join the fun of their low keyed, low cost style of bass fishing and tournament angling.

The bass club features ten, regular season tournaments for this year that included the 11th Annual Clear Lake Pro Kickboat Open earlier in the Spring, Additionally, a TOC is slated for a November blast off at Naci.

The schedule shows a monthly competition at a variety of locations that include several locations on the Delta, Berryessa, Clear Lake, New Melones and more.

We caught up with Bass-n-tubes at their 7th event of the season, this weekend in Middle River. With a 3:00 a.m. launch at the California Delta, their tournament came to a close at 9:00 a.m.

Seventeen anglers competed in the six hour event.

With a shad swimbait and a Wacky-rigged, watermelon/red Senko Jeff Wilson weighed in 15.34 to take top honors of the day. He culled six times and reeled in all his bass from one area.

Topwater was the ticket for Todd Iwamoto and his 14.70 that had him standing in second. Frogs and spooks spurred the bite for Iwamoto for his first four. He filled out his limit with a Paycheck Punch rig in the last minutes of the day.

Senkos and poppers put the pounds in the boat of Troy Hornback who heaved 14.50 up the bank to takeover 3rd place. He had a red Rico and a black/blue Senko.

The Bass-n-Tube TD, Taylor Capilla captured the never coveted spot of "first-out-of-the-money". He was on the bubble with 12.27. He also said the Senko was his go-to and told the others he had a limit before light, culling four times.

The event ran $35 for an all-in, which included entry and Big Fish option.

Their next scheduled tournament, the Clear Lake SCBBBC State Kickboat Classic is scheduled to be held at Clear Lake on September 17 - 18, launching out of State Park.

How are they able to launch at 3am? Are they required to have nav lights? Sounds fun though.

I was told that the official rule was..they had to have a "white light" from launch time until 15 minutes after safe light.

Great write up thanks. I don't get to fish with the BNT group as much as I use too and truly miss them. Of all the events I fish, these kickboat tournaments are by far the most fun and relaxed. I would also like to mention the clean up project they have going on. After weigh in they all grab garbage bags to try and clean up the trash others leave behind. This event they picked up 10 bags of garbage just from this one area. Good job guys
