Don't let H.R. Bill 1837 pass!!! Please read

Post by civicrr »

Guys,
As many know, there has been a battle going on over water on the Delta. Just recently (2/2/12), the California Fish & Game commission rejected proposed changes to the striped bass regulations. The changes in regulations were a thinly disguised attempt by water interest to pump more water out of the Delta. Their premise is that striped bass, a non-native species, not water diversion, was to blame for the salmon situation. Keep in mind that the stipers have been here well over 140 years.

Largemouth bass are a non-native species too. It was predicted that once they took out the stripers, they'd be coming after largies too.......

H.R. Bill 1837 was introduced less than two weeks after the F & G vote. Seems to me that Bill 1837 was already written & ready to go. I copied & pasted some info below. In a nutshell, what this bill will do is declare open season on largemouth & striped bass.

(1) STATE LAW PREEMPTION- Neither the State of California, an agency of the State, nor any political subdivision of the State shall adopt or enforce any requirement for the protection or conservation of any species listed under the Endangered Species Act for the operations of the Central Valley Project or the California State Water Project that is more restrictive than the requirements of this section. Any provision of California State law that authorizes the imposition of conditions or restrictions on the operations of the Central Valley Project or the California State Water Project for the protection or conservation of a species that is more restrictive than this section is preempted.

(2) NATIVE SPECIES PROTECTION- Any restriction imposed under California law on the take or harvest of any nonnative or introduced aquatic or terrestrial species that preys upon a native fish species that occupies the Sacramento and San Joaquin Rivers and their tributaries or the Sacramento-San Joaquin Rivers Delta shall be void and is preempted."

I wonder how many salmon are eaten by the protected sea lions and seals? They do not mention controlling their numbers???

HR Bill 1837 passed the House today.

If you haven't already, you better contact your Senator! We need to do everything in our power to make sure it doesn't get through the Senate.

Interesting the same party that crows about preserving State's rights, passed a bill today that allows the Federal government take away those rights here in California. Guess they only care about those rights until the people who line their pockets pull the purse strings.

Are you surprised? When is the last time Republicans DIDN'T sell out the environment in support of big business?
