Ranger Z19 wiring/Lowance 112

Post by riverguy225 »

I have an older 2008 Lowrance 112 and it keeps turning it self off after I turn it on. It also then will then not turn back on at all? Anybody had a similar issue? It is not the unit because I switched it out with another graph and it does the same thing. Is there a internal fuse I can check near the bow? Thanks in advance for any advice on this issue.

If there was an internal fuse and it was blown, the unit would not turn on at all. The only fuse is the inline fuse on the hot wire.

I would check all wire connections and then look at where you might have a voltage draw down, similar to when you turn on the big motor and the voltage drop will make the electronics turn off. If your batteries are older and you have some other devices turning on, this can create a voltage drop. Tough issue to diagnose online but it is either in the wiring/connections or an issue with the battery. Don't forget to check the power cable connection into the back of the unit.

Like Ken said " could be a voltage drop" Had similiar problem as mine did the same thing. When starting the big motor it would power off or it would shut off by itself when running. Was losing voltage at my front connection. Ran the power line direct to the battery for the unit and problem sholved.

I had the same problem with my bow graph and fixed it with putting a bomber cranking battery in.

Did lots of research and found the sears battery to be highly recommended. Not sure what battery you have but they are not all created equal, and NO Optima batteries are not the best, they just have a lot of pro staff that push em.

Check your battery when under load and when all your graphs, pumps, etc. are on. Check your voltage to the bow when all of that equipment is running.

This battery solved my issues.

Agree with the others; ultimately the problem is that you are not getting enough voltage to the bow. Usually this is from a bad starting battery, but if your starting battery is fine then look for bad wiring, corrosion, poor connections, etc.

When buying a starting battery, make sure it has enough cranking amps to meet the outboard manufacturer's requirement, but ALSO make sure you get a battery with at least 190 minutes RC (Reserve Capacity), and preferrably 200 minutes RC rating. Running aerators really draws down your starting battery, and all your other electronic accessories including the GPS units pull down your starting battery's power; then when you crank your outboard the voltage drop will shut off your Lowrance units.

I used to have the same problem. I switched to a dual purpose deep cycle battery for my cranking battery, and it stopped.
