Castaic drawdown

Post by mrobinett »

Has anybody heard how low or how long the drawdown at Castaic is going to be? It's down about 14 feet in 3 weeks and still dropping.

I called the lake and they said that they won't be putting anymore water in the lake until we get some rain because there's no water to get. It's really going to get down by August, September.

Got to save those Delta smelt, we lost 1/3rd of our water supply from the delta due to the the smelt being used as a pawn for the water wars. Today we also have a severe drought with El Nino coming this summer.
Castaic is a very deep lake with good structure at low water levels, the bass aren't going anywhere.

Sorry to hear you SoCal guys are getting low on your lakes, as we are up here in NorCal. But note that holding water here is not just about Delta Smelt. It affects our game fish too, and our local farmers. If you want more info about how holding water in the Delta is good for our game fish, talk to Snagproof pro and local guide Bobby Barrack or look up the SaveTheDelta.org sites. The more water pulled from the Sacramento river feeds the water barons (that's what we hear up here, not sure what you are hearing down there), but will result in salt water infiltration up from the bay into the Delta. One thing we don't want up here is to make Sacramento and Stockton into a salt water port......

You wouldn't know there's a drought if you drive though SCV, city, hoa green belt area's, homeowners, rivers of water running into the streets and gutters, it's a joke...
Well maybe cal boats and water ways will shut the upper lake launch down to repave the ramp, and if it goes as well as it did at the a lagoon, it took almost three years to redo the ramp so if we had low water levels boaters could still launch.
Time to buy a belly boat or a yak...
And yes you can park on the ramp, fits about 15 rigs at this point.

Thanks Dave.
The main ramp goes way down. My friend said he used to fish the lake when a 100' drawdown was an every year occurance.

Today on ABC 7, they talked about how the water district is going to send 30 thousand acre feet of water from Castaic to Perris to prevent Perris from getting to low. I guess it's just a sign of things to come.

My club was at Perris last week, and the lake is low, and dropping half a foot a day.
All of the tules are out of the water now.
One of the locals there said they are dropping it for more dam repairs, but no one in uniform at the lake could confirm that.
I thought they had completed their repairs.

So Cal Lakes are drying up!!! Casitas still has water trickling in from the mountains but the lake is coming down a LOT each week. Unless this el nino really does come we may not have much to fish in a year!!!

Eric, hate to break the news to you; El Niño brings severe drought to SoCal.
Hang in there, you having a good year from what I hear. Castaic and Casitas are deep with some good structure at several levels and the grass seems to be growing for the bait fish.
Launching is going to be a problem.

The last couple of El Ninos Casitas filled to the brim or spilled over the top. I am thinking you may be confused with La Nina... that dries everything out.

Oh I know all about the NEW structure popping up in 40-50ft of water at Casitas... made some money on a lot of it this year so far!

Eric Let's hope you are right. The 1997-1998 El Niño brought rain to SoCal south of point conception, most El Niño's bring hotter drier higher pressure zones for our area like today. One thing is a constant, wet weather follows the El Niño years and that is what we need!
Some good stuff is about to be discovered, don't know if that good or not!
See you on the water.
