Mercury 225 Optimax issues

Post by 49erc1 »

I am looking at buying a used boat with a 2006 Mercury 225 Optimax motor. One mechanic told me to stay away from these motors. Does anyone on this forum have any experience with this particular motor? Thx!

Go over to BBC (bassboatcentral.com) get on the Mercury 3.0L forum & get in contact with Don Weed from European Marine. He's the moderator for that forum & will be willing to help you out & answer any questions you may have to the best of his knowledge. He's a great guy, knowledgeable about Mercury, & always willing to help!

Got a 2004 and have had issues but not excessive for the hours I've put on it. Compressor, trim motor, and reeds have all been replaced on my motor. But, I have over 500 hours on mine. I would not be afraid of a 2006 at all.
