Elite 7 HDI and Lake Pro V14

Post by Steve »

I purchased this unit recently and it supposedly came pre-loaded with Lake Pro V14. I was also given the micro SD card with the software on it. The problem is I cant seem to figure out how to get the software to overlay on the chart page; the contours are not showing. I wanted to check to see if the Lake Pro software was indeed installed on the units hard drive, for the life of me I cant seem to figure out how to do that. When I put the micro SD in and go to browse files, sure enough it shows the Lake Pro files, but even with the micro SD in the contours still do not show on the lakes while in the chart page. Any suggestions on what Im doing wrong here? Somewhere Im missing a step; Im pretty good with electronics but this one is getting under my skin.

With your unit on, go to the Chart page. You can do this without being on the water. When you are on the Chart page, hit menu and find the Map Data. With the chip in the unit, hit enter and a drop down menu will come up and the chip should be listed. Use the arrow keys to highlight the chip and hit enter. This will force the unit to use the map data on the chip when you view the Chart screen. To change back to the Lake Insight map data preloaded into the unit, go to the Map Data screen and choose Lowrance and hit enter.

Thanks for the response Ken. Ill give that a go and see what happens. I did have the Lowrance option entered. Heres another question for you. How the heck do I check the units harddrive to see what has been downloaded. As best I can tell, this unit has no harddrive, and the only way to show waypoints, trails, etc. from my last unit or show the Lake Pro data is to have that stuff saved on the micro SD, and have that micro SD in the unit. If thats the case Im kinda bummed, would prefer to just have data downloaded to the unit and not have to worry about always having an extremely small chip in the unit.

I don't run the Elite series units so I don't have much "hands on" experience. The unit does have a hard drive. If you go to the menu and find System and hit enter and find "About" and hit enter you will see the current version of software that is in the unit. Then go to the Lowrance web site and if the software update on the web site is a bigger number than the one in your Elite unit, you can download the current version of software and update your unit for free.

This is the only changes you can make to the hard drive that is in the unit. The micro SD cards you put into the unit for it to read are the only other type of storage available for you to transfer Waypoints, Trails, settings, etc. from one unit to another or third party or Insight Genesis mapping to be viewed on the unit.

The Elite series is kinda a scaled down model as far as features go but an awesome unit for the money. I use the HDS series. These have more customization features but basically do the same thing for more money.

You have a great unit, just take the time to learn the features of the unit and if you really find some feature that the HDS has that you just can't live without, then start saving your money and sell your Elite unit and upgrade.

Is the card transferable to another unit?
