Boat Alarm

Recently someone tried to steal my boat unsuccessfully. I came out in the morning to go fishing and they had everything unhitched, but something made them stop. Instead they broke into my truck and thrashed it. Anyway, I still went fishing!

With all that said, I would love recommendations of Boat Alarms. I read bad reviews on the TH Marine products but staying open minded.

Find something loud that will cause them to leave. People who steal are not nice people.

I'm surprised that no one has developed a 2-way video system using cheaper cell phone/WiFi technology. For the cost of a 2nd phone line, some bubble gum and duct tape you could have a decent security system that should work as long as there is cell tower within range.

If it is parked close enough to send a wireless signal to an alarm it will work. I've been looking at Simply Safe Home alarm motion sensor and alarm. It's wireless and you could take it anywhere. The Alarm sounder is quite loud and would scare off anybody and also alert you immediately !! Check it out at SimplySafe.com

Interesting. I like the txt notification aspect to your cell phone. Now if it could have a video component along being housed in a water proof enclosure, it would really suit outdoor security needs.

I use a Dropcam, now owned by Nest, for home security. It sends an email and text when it detects movement. It also allows you to view video of the events for an annual fee.

It's not rated for outdoor use yet, but if you had to put it outside vs aimed out a window, you could always put it in a windowed fiberglass enclosure like this;

In my opinion, one of the best ways to deter theft is to have proper lighting in the area. Put up some motion triggered lights if possible, big ones. Don't let the idiots have the cover of darkness to hide behind and you will become a more difficult target.

more good stuff. What I would love see is something that you can attach to your tow vehicle (either from the roof or thru a back window) and have visibility (video capability) of your boat when on the road or in a parking lot. Cell connectivity would be great to have for real-time txt notification and video.
