Curado 200 I makes clicking noise when reeling??

Post by stan7 »

I've had two of these make a clicking noise when reeling. It sounds like a loop of line is sticking out of the spool and ticking as it touches the frame. But, it does not make any noise when free spooling (casting) and I looked closely and there was no loop of line. Any ideas? Pinion bearing? It happened after about an hour of throwing a 3/8oz bait.

It actually went away on one of the reels after another couple hours of fishing.

I otherwise really like the reel. Very smooth under load, and casts nicely. Carbon drag washer right out of the box to boot.

If it only happening on retrieve it is most likely a noisy anti reverse bearing, and yes I have seen a few. Dan

Thanks Dan,
Is there a fix? Shall I try a light wipe of oil on the inner race?

Or does it get dirt in there that needs to be flushed out somehow? I've heard you're not really supposed to lube them or they stop working.

send it to Dan @ reelex , have him fix it , clean and lube the entire reel and maybe even upgrade the bearings

No, it's usually a faulty anti reverse. Correct you should never lube an anti-reverse. If the reel is less than a year old you can send it back to Shimano and they will replace it FREE of charge. The bearing is not cheap, approx $23 just for the bearing. If the reel is older than 12 months or you want it done quicker, I'd be happy to assist you. Please note however, my soonest opening is May 16, and it could very well be something else? I'd have to see it to tell you for sure.

Feel free to call anytime should you have any questions. 650-454-4938.

I have never seen a dry ARB in a bait caster from the factory. On spinning reels the ARB should not be lubed. Because of the higher load in BC reels since it supports the crank it should be lightly oiled.
