Eliminating Stripers Ain't the Answer

'Peter Moyle, a veteran fisheries scientist at UC Davis, is among the researchers who say striped bass are unfairly blamed for the declines in native fish. He described the striper as a “scapefish,” whose numbers have suffered marked declines in recent decades, alongside native fish. The real issue, he said, is what humans have done to the environment by over-allocating water to competing interests.'

Far upstream from the Delta, in his boat on the Feather River, Richey remembers boom years not so long ago when his clients hauled in salmon, steelhead and stripers. He views efforts to eradicate striped bass as “a diversionary tactic” that deflects attention from the unrelenting demand for exported water.

“When you’ve got all your species trending downward,” he said, “the common denominator is water.”

Striped bass, he said, have coexisted with salmon almost as long as California has been a state.

"a diversionary tactic". Plain and simple.

It's a well known fact that stripers drink way more than their fair share of water.
It is a matter of substance abuse.
We need a program to try and ween them off water, and onto something safer, like beer.

Once the transcontinental railroad was completed in the late 1800's Northern strain largemouth were brought out to California in tank cars from Texas . One of the first waterways they were stocked in was the Cal Delta . Stripers and America shad were also brought out from the east coast and stocked in California . All of these introduced species flourished and co-existed with the native species in the Delta for over a hundred years without incident .
The problem with the Delta now is a "Man Caused disaster " created by greedy politicians and their water thirsty
lobbyists who are greasing the skids for the destruction of the Delta with agribusiness $$$ .
People who know , know California politician's blow . So much for Democrats being the saviors of the environment .

Sad, but true. All politicians seem to be addicted to the same drug...campaign contributions.
