Man I've been wanting to fish this tournament for awhile and the u.s. Open but I just don't understand why it is always during the week and doesn't have any days of the tourney on the Weekend. Most guys have a m-f job and a lot of us fisherman work construction and don't have paid time off so it's hard to miss 3/4 days unpaid and then spend more money on top of that to fish a tourney. Don't get me wrong I am not bashing this circuit in anyway I am just frustrated that I will probably not get to fish it again this year. :x

Tournament fishing these days , especially "pro-Am" style tourneys' is way more costly than the 80's & 90's I would fish 2 or 3 of the big circuits back then ! now I can't afford ' or get the time off work to fish even 1 circuit! it sucks ! but it will never be as good as it was in the "old days "......

Did you ever send your thoughts about this issue to Billy? He has been actively seeking input from anglers on FB and on this site for many weeks before the dates were set. It sounds like this has been an issue for you for a while so I hope you weren't hoping Billy is a mind reader. He's very open to angler input!!

That said, hats off to Billy for asking for angler input!! The bite that time of year can be very good...or can be a bit tough. Perfect for an event like this! It's been a while since I have fished a major event like this but now that I'm an "ex-pro" ...I am seriously considering fishing from the back deck in a few events this year including this one.

Bayarea-bassin - We appreciate your input and concerns. We welcome the input, as we believe that these events are your events. Yes we run them, and yes we provide sponsorship for the events, but essentially the events are for you the anglers. The Cal Open at Clear Lake was modeled after the long lasting and highly successful U.S. Open. The reason the events are on weekdays, is because they are not your average Pro/Am event. They are stand alone events with huge payouts and included boat packages for first place Pro winners. There is no qualifying for the event in the hopes to win a boat. We also run these events during the week, to minimize local fishing and pleasure boating traffic during the tournament days. Everyone fishes all three days, as there is no cut off, which allows all anglers a chance at daily included optional payouts. We know that this event has moved dates in the last few years, but our intention is to find a yearly date for this event, so that it can grow. After asking many anglers for their input, we have determined that May might just be the right time. June is a short month due to the 6 hr rule change by the DFG, which makes it tuff to secure dates. We were also asked by the DFG to not have a large event like this in June due to potential risks to the resource. Anyway, I wanted to at least address your concerns. We know we can't make everyone happy with our options, but we am to please the majority. I hope that you can work it out and attend.
