KEN SAURET HELP

Post by Skippy »

Can I use the Ethernet cord between my HDS 5 & HDS 7 to link the HDS 7 to LCX-27c together instead ?

A friend gave me the LCX-27c and I think it might work better for me than the HDS 5. I want to link the two together and have the HDS 7 on the bow of my boat "feed" the LCX unit on the console info.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks

I have to be honest. It has been a long time since I had an LCX unit and haven't tried to link one to an HDS unit. I would say to give it a try and let us know if it works. The only thing I can't remember is if an LCX unit has an ethernet connection on the back of the unit. If it does, then it may just work.

Both units have the Ethernet port and they all of the internet searches I have done, they say it can be done.

The only that I have read that I don't understand is that I cannot power the LCX unit thru the NMEA network. I have not networked my units like that, do I don't think that it applies to what I am trying to do.

It works, the LCX unit reads the HDS sonar data. That was while I was sitting in the garage, I will do a lake test Friday on Folsom to see if they share GPS data from HDS's GPS antenna

Pretty sure they will share Sonar, maybe Chart and way-points, but not structure scan. LCX is not programmed for that

To get the GPS features I have to connect a GPS antenna to the LCX unit as it will not aquire GOS data from the HDS unit through the Ethernet cord.

Not a big deal, I know the places I want to go without GPS help, once I get where I am going, I can fine tune in closet to a given waypoint with the trolling motor and the HDS unit
