Post by Rod Martin »

If I have a worm or hard bait that is no longer in production, Can I have a mold made and produce it for personel use, If not what do I have to change ?

Thanks

You need to contact the company to see if they have patents on the baits and if the patents are up to date. Then you will need to find out the type or types of patents on the baits, design or utility and read the details. Not sure of the laws behind personal use only. If no patents, you are legal. Half of all the bait companies don't have patents on their products.

As far as I know, you can make anything for yourself as long as you don't sell them or pass them off as the original.

I left an email with one company asking if they would do custom orders and if so how much. So we'll see what they have to offer

If it has a current patent you do not need authorization if your not selling them. I doubt its patented. There would have to be something revolutionary about its function or it would have to have some extraordinary ascetics.

Rod,

Are you looking for a hard bait or soft plastic bait, or both? Maybe I can help.

Both
I cannot find Persuader baits buzz bait with the willow leaf clacker in 1/2 oz.
Nichols spinner baits changed their head style
And Yamamoto no longer does the 8 and 10" single tail grub that I like

You can make anything for your own use without violating patents! You cannot sell or even give away these products but you can manufacture them for your own use or consumption! That includes making a mold and using the color scheme!

Rod,

What color(s) are you looking for in the 8" and 10" Yamamoto Grubs?

I used NCAngler for some grubs that we couldn't find anymore. Steve matched them exactly. In fact, we just ordered some more.

I could make the previous posts grubs because I already had the mold which has been around for years. Don't know about the Yamamoto grub molds, but the reason I asked for the colors was because if you were going to make them for yourself, I might have the correct color combination that I'd be happy to share.
