Kipawa Prop/Battery Drain issue

Post by Andy Lippert »

Long story short--bent up my old MK prop and heard good things about the Kipawa. Threw it on there and the second day I had it out on the river, my batteries died by about 3PM. Batteries are almost 2 years old so I figured I needed new batteries. Put new batteries in, fully charged (group 31's 24V MK 80 fortrex) and again by about 2:30, have to throw the TM on 100 to get the power of about 30.

After reading a bit, it seems like people have had power drain issues with this prop, but I just wanted to hear first-hand if that's true, or whether or not I could have a different wiring issue.

Appreciate any input.

Thanks
Andrew

I have been running one on my Minn Kota 55 12volt TM and thought it improved both my power and seemed to last longer. Just bought a 24volt 80Lb Minn Kota from TW and installed a Kipawa on it before 1st trip. Will have to wait and see on how it works.

question how would you have power drain ? Do you have to run at a higher power setting to get the same speed in the same conditions ?

Just due to the increased resistance regardless of speed setting. Really just wanted to see if anyone else had the problem before I rip apart my electrical system and try and find an issue that may or may not be there.

I've been running the kipawa prop for about 10 years.
from my 74 to my present 112 and been advocating kipawa props
to my customers for years. I've never had a complaint.
my question is did you buy Walmart or Costco batteries?
you get what you pay for. I've been running
American batteries for about 25 years and my last set lasted me
10 years. group 31's. but you have to be anal about checking
the water level.

American made batteries with no reused parts. Are you fishing the Delta withtbat set up? Doubt I'd have any issue with a lake. Looks like I need to troubleshoot my charging/electrical system.
