Calibrating your Point 1

Re: Calibrating your Point 1
I've tried doing this on two trips to the lake and still can't get it to calibrate. It keeps "Timing out". Lowrance told me to disconnect the Point 1, re connect it, and try again...I did and same results. Not sure if I need to send in the new antenna or if it's something else? Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Calibrating your Point 1
I will look into this issue as I have experienced the same thing. Once a calibration is done, the unit will not let another calibration be done it seems. The "timed out" stop to the new calibration comes up. Hopefully, more info to follow...

Re: Calibrating your Point 1
Ya, I've been talking with Lowrance for a few days now. They can't figure it out. They told if nothing else to send in my antenna. Every thing is working expect the direction my boat goes along the water on the map. I go North and my boat is pointed East. Plus it still won't calibrate.
Re: Calibrating your Point 1
Is your always 90* off from your actual heading? May have some magnetic interference.
Re: Calibrating your Point 1
I'd have to say "mostly", but not always. It is positioned up near my trolling motor.
Re: Calibrating your Point 1
Get yourself a handheld compass and check that area for ANY magnetic action. If you find some magnetic draw, try to pinpoint the source. You may need to reposition your Point-1 module to correct this.BassNCop wrote:I'd have to say "mostly", but not always. It is positioned up near my trolling motor.
Re: Calibrating your Point 1
Hmmm, never thought of trying that. Thanks. I'll check.

Edd,
Wow! I did that little test....the compass went nuts even with power off! Seems the trolling motor, even though there was no power to it, is causing havoc to the magnetic field. I guess I'll be moving the Point 1.
Thanks!

Moved the Point 1. Now to try to calibrate it. Gotta wait for these winds to die down now. I'll let you know soon...I hope.

Re: Calibrating your Point 1- trolling motor
Your trolling motor has a ton of wire and rotating magnets and etc., so makes a huge magnetic field. Point one antenna seems pretty sensitive to all electromagnetic radiation- mine says to mount at least 5 feet from a radio antenna, over 20 feet from radar. and over three feet from the head unit.

Re: Calibrating your Point 1
I've had nothing but problems with my point one on my bass cat. Its been in three (3) different spots and has never worked the way it should. Five feet from anything electronic as they suggest is pretty difficult to do on a bass boat. Recently bought a new antenna to try to see if mine was defective.

Edd,
It worked!!! Calibrated like a champ! I sure wish Lowrance technicians would have known this. It sure would of saved me a lot of headaches and spending hours on the phone with them. Never once did they ask me where my antenna was mounted. Thanks!

Same problem here. My arrow is always pointing in the wrong direction.
