Red Lipless Crankbaits

Post by ttb31183 »

You always hear about throwing red baits early in the year and for some reason they work great. I picked up a new bait and used it today and that was the only thing I could get bit on. It was crystal clear water, yet the natural colors didn't produce like this one did. What do you think the reason is?

I was only out for a few hours and my plan was to test out some new rods and reels I have acquired over the winter. I tried shallow cranks, swimbiats, jerkbaits and plastics, but the red lipless was what the fish wanted.

My theory is that it has something to do with feeding on crawfish, but then again a lipless crankbait zipping by doesn't really look like a bottom-dwelling crawdad. This was the biggest of the day, a 4-pound, 7-ounce largemouth on the red lipless...of course.

The red gums lead me to believe that they are munching on craws. Pretty much a staple pattern on the D pre spawn.

Was my first time using this brand and they worked good. They cast well and have a great rattle sound.
