Re: Tides on the delta
Time on the water, sorry dude it's how we learned before and it's the only remedy to starting to understand how tide affects an area. Best advice I was given and will give is pick a small section of river and fish that section all day -from high - low and see what those fish do during that time. I chose the Whites\Dissapointment Slough area - then start branching off from there. My best day on the river came on a 200-300' stretch and caught my two bests on the same spot on on peak high and one on the bottom low. But the key is to fish the current in that area you choose to break down. Once you start to see how fish re-position during the tides start expanding on it. Typically guys like the to be inside of islands during incoming and outside during the outgo. Popular big fish areas are whites, franks, Mildred, and mandiville. Hell you could fish around Mildred all year and be around big fish, but first you have to focus on where the fish position.
Dont worry about running the tides for your window, that will start to come as you gain confidence in locating your fish!

You might try these videos from Nick Smith:

I'm sure there are other nuggets of information in his other videos as well.
Several guides have told that while bass dont like to be in current, they like to be near it where the current will drop food off to them. In fact cooch wrote an interesting informative article about it here on WB:
