How are the plans to roll back the environmental protections provided by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) going to affect the Delta, and the water quality here?

Basically... (and Bobby could explain better). It was something he was trying to bring to the attention of anglers for some time (videos and the petition etc)

But the bill has no been signed into law right before Obama left

and it included language on the eradication of non-native species from the Delta (of course, this means the bass)

Again, Bobby could give more insight ...

There have been witnesses in the last few weeks that this has begun and most recently a report of bass being shocked and transported out of the Delta. One reported that they were being taken to Bethany reservioir. Some reports have said it is a DFG boat, some have said it is a private company. Reports also say the people doing are not talking about it much when asked, stop when approached, are working the South end, are taking bass almost daily, start in late afternoon so that there is less traffic. This is info that has been reported BUT none of the witnesses have thought to take any pix or vid.

No one at WesternBass has witnessed any of it. It has just been reported by calls, emails, texts and requested to help spread the word. WB cannot confirm any of the reports.

Anybody have any info?

Once again, it's southern calif telling us how to live our lives here in Northern Calif. They can take whatever they want because they have the controlling vote and dollar. We need the State of Jefferson up here and to include Sacramento/San Joaquin Counties for fair representation. I see the collapse pf the Delta system and a falling domino effect for the remaining bodies of water and fisheries.

Once again, Stuart Resnick and the Westlands Water District telling us how to live our lives, not the people of SoCal. Wealthy corporate farmers, raising water intensive crops for export with State subsidized water.

What is even worse is that we (the taxpayers) are subsidizing their profits (especially the exports to China/India) while we the taxpayer receive nothing and no one seems to care.

And that's the truth. 1 big corporation that was given the right to have/take as much water as they need to run there business. Consumes more water then the population of LA county. We're talking millions of people here. Lookup Wonderful Fruit Co. and see all of the huge names of products that most buy regularly. The consumer has total envolvement also buying these products. A good place to start is to stop buying there products.

There is no way they can eradicate all non-native species from the Delta nor could they even come close. That effort would cost way more than the Bullet Train to nowhere. The best and most cost effective measure would be to discourage Sea Lions from staging at convenient feeding locations where the decimate fish stocks. I had one following me around in Mildred last Sunday in 6'-8' of water just gorging on bed fish.

question. If you move the intake to the tunnels upstream and it bings salt water farther into the delta. That kills all freshwater fish in that area ?

Yuck. I've been seeing sea lions on the delta for years and the couple of times I've seen fish in their mouths, it was carp. Guess I was being naive to think they aren't scarfing on bass, too! Short of killing the sea lions, how could certain areas be protected from them? Shoot them with darts, tranquilize them and haul their fat butts back out to sea? ; > )

Brown seems to be making the rounds
Jerry Brown: California Taxpayers are ‘Freeloaders’

California Governor Jerry Brown referred to taxpayers as “freeloaders” last week for objecting to his new gas tax and car fee hikes.

“The freeloaders — I’ve had enough of them … They have a president that doesn’t tell the truth and they’re following suit,” he said. Brown was speaking in Orange County, defending State Assembly newcomer Josh Newman (D-Fullerton), who is facing a recall effort after voting for Brown’s new transportation taxes in April.

The new tax raises existing gas taxes — already among the highest in the nation — by 12 cents per gallon, with higher taxes on diesel, and slaps car owners with higher annual registration fees. Critics have pointed out that the burden of the tax falls most heavily on middle-class Californians.

The Orange County Register, which covered Brown’s remarks, adds that Brown is sparing no effort to keep Newman in office. “He’ll have whatever he needs,” the Register quotes the governor as saying.

Kira Davis, commenting at RedState, remarks:

The 1,000,000 citizens in Los Angeles county alone who collect food stamps provided by taxpayers are not freeloaders. The millions of illegal immigrants being harbored in California’s sanctuary cities to the cost of taxpayers are not freeloaders. Illegal immigrants being provided “free” legal help by the state on the backs of taxpayers are not freeloaders. The bloodsuckers in the Sacramento legislature who get paid $178 a day in per diem funds on top of their bloated salaries just for walking in the door to their job every day are not freeloaders.

No, you – the burdened, law-abiding taxpayer are the freeloader for simply asking the government of California be more fiscally responsible with the money they already have instead of stealing more of your money without your consent to pay for programs that are already funded but have been raided for pet projects and personal enrichment.

Google "killing bass on the delta" and this link- http://www.dailykos.com/story/2016/4/22 ... -Reservoir will pop up.

In April of 2016 with little fanfare, the DNR conducted electro-shocking of striped bass in Clifton Court Forebay and transported those fish to Bethany Reservior, possibly to join the 1.5 million stripers our striped bass/ Bay-Delta enhancement stamps payed for. If anything, could this have been a dry run for legislation to eradicate Bass and other sport fish from Delta waters...

Here's a quote from that article:
"Striped bass are not a native species, but they have been in California waters so long that they are an essential component of the Bay-Delta Estuary ecosystem, filling an important ecological niche. The initial introduction took place in 1879, when 132 small bass were brought to California by rail from the Navesink River in New Jersey and released near Martinez. Fishery officials made a second introduction of stripers in lower Suisun Bay in 1888.

Striper numbers have declined in recent years, along with Central Valley steelhead, fall, winter and spring-run Chinook salmon, Delta and longfin smelt, Sacramento splittail, American shad, green sturgeon, and other fish species, due to the massive export of water through the state and federal pumping facilities in the South Delta to corporate agribusiness interests on the west side of the San Joaquin Valley.

The striped bass’s demonization by state and federal government and water agency officials is in spite of all of the available scientific evidence. Two leading experts on the Bay Delta Estuary and striped, Dr. Peter Moyle, UC Davis fishery scientist, professor and author, and Dr. David Ostrach, former UC Davis research scientists, and other biologists point out that the elimination or reduction in the numbers of striped bass is likely to hurt Delta smelt and other species by targeting a species that preys on the predators of smelt and salmon! Population control vs. Greed

Politicians invested in their own legacy, and/or lowering the budget and deficit, tap into increased revenue through populace. Higher populace means more taxes, and that is the fundamental answer to control. Overlooking the detriment of higher populace has always, always been an argument no one seems to want to confront. Nationalities, whether immigrants that are illegal or immigrants that properly crossed the border... Re-locators from with the U.S. or Canada, never, ever has the state "shrunk". In fact, as we speak, new home developments continue to be built across the state, as they have been for 40 years. Politicians are the most UN-realistic people representing the real people and that, in and of itself, is completely moronic. I fear the lack of population control is going to subside all other issues, and that will only bring about a major catastrophe with no resources left to re-establish common ground. I hope that never happens, but considering what lengths our "representatives" go through to make a name for themselves, higher populace brings more taxes, and they think that's the answer to everything.
At this rate my kids will be paying 150.00 to fish in a regulated plastic pool with stocked rainbow trout, but only on Tuesdays because the other days are by appointment only. That's not fishing' and that's not experiencing nature as it is.

That's the politically correct way to say...
There's too many damn people in California and resources aren't growing. Using the Delta to distribute water will inevitably happen, if we don't put a cap on development. That's just common sense, which isn't too common anymore.

The most effective time to electroshock for bass is sunset into the late hours of the night. The fish are up shallow and you can see them better to net them. In one hour it is possible to get about 200lbs of bass easily. So most fisherman will not see them out there because they shock in the dark. If you have any more questions let me know. I worked for fish and game for 10 years electroshocking most of the bass lakes in California.

Sorry ILW,

I have not worked at Fish and Game (Wildlife now) for 10 years. I cannot confirm that. I'm a tournament fisherman that hates to see this happening to the Delta. I would recommend you call DFG at 916-358-2900 and ask for the region 2 reservoir Biologist and he can answer your questions or direct you to the Delta region biologist.

This is only one of many presentations done. They all have room for argument but is interesting non the less...

Salmon numbers began to decline when the Aqueduct was completed, and water was diverted south. The more water that is diverted, the lower the numbers of salmon making it to the ocean, and then returning. There is a direct correlation, and it's got to be easy to track for people with access to both water export numbers and fisheries numbers.
