Transducer Type question

Post by MarkB67 »

I recently had two networked HDS Gen 3 9's installed along w/ new transducers - both units are running the current 4.5 software.

My question is: I have a LSS-2 and, in the bilge area, a 2D shoot through puck (PDRT-WBL_transducer) and I want to make sure that for my Console HDS the correct Transducer is selected (see pic below). And here's the dumb question: should my Gen3 be looking at the LSS-2 skimmer and/or the 2D Sonar puck ? Does the LSS-2 have the option to be 'picked' or it just recognized by the graphs software etc ? I hope that question makes sense.

A reputable Nor. Cal shop did the install and I believe also did a good job then setting up & updating the units - but this is a big upgrade for me and I just want to make it is indeed set up properly.

Thanks in advance for any comments and responses!

Both of your 9's will auto recognize the LSS-2. On your shoot-thru look for the PD-WBL. If you have the correct xdcr and not the PDRT-WBL. PDRT has water temp and PD does not, so, units will now get water temp from LSS-2. If you do have PDRT-WBL you would need to pull the correct pin from the connector for temp to work right.

Thank you Edd for you response. Hoping I can push you for a bit more info / clarification ... sorry I'm a bit behind on the recent graph / sonar tech.

The puck in the bilge is (per the invoice from C&C Marine) a: PRDT-WDL Trolling Motor / Puck Xducer W/ Remote Temp. The LSS-2 was listed as a: LSS-2 HD Skimmer - Xducer Only <--- but this is auto recognized so we're good there.

Based on my screenshot and this additional info is my HDS indeed looking at the right Transducer ? If not please clarify on what I can / should do.

Again - thank you Edd!

Yes...I'm sorry but your invoice is correct...I meant PDT not PDRT. Moving on, do you see the temp sensor on the transom? If so, then your selection of the PDRT-WBL is the correct choice and your temp will be from the remote sensor.

Sorry for the confusion.

If you have a temp capable 2D transducer (like PDRT-WBL) you will not be able to select your LSS for temp info. It is just the way it works. You could, as Edd suggested pull the temp pin out of the sonar connector but why? Also, the place you select the source for data is Pages/Settings/Network/Data Sources. You will select Scope, Local and Temp, This Unit.

I was able to confirm that their is indeed a temp sensor on the transom which, in turn, confirms that the correct Transducer Type is selected in my HDS: "PDRT-WBL / PDRT WSU". I have (had) no intention of trying to make the LSS-2 pull temp rather I just wanted to make sure my set up was correct.

Thank you again Edd & NorCal for the help - I really do appreciate it.
