Tactical Assault Rods?

Post by Big Stick 74 »

Do any of you guys remember Tactical assault rods? I just found a brand new one in my storage. These are the rods that had the guides that go around the blank. Not sure, but I think they were made by a guy called Rich Forhan???? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

Are these the spiral-wrapped rods? I believe Rich Forhan did make a spiral wrap, and I know that Sieg Taylor used spiral wraps as did Gary Klein at one time. I don't know if they were using the ones from Tactical Assault however. And I don't know if Rick was the builder of Tactical Assault rods or Sieg & Gary's rods . Maybe someone has the knowledge (and memory) to connect the dots?

I have a revolver rod and a tactical assault rod still use them both.

Rich Forhan designed the Revolver rods and made those rods. He partnered with a guy to make the Tactical Assault rods. The business blew up and he couldn't keep up and quality deminished. Gary Klein brought the concept to quantum and they did a rod release for a short term.

I really like the glass revolver rods for jerkbaits. What action is it?

I actually have quite a few left. They were made by Brad Tharp. 4 or 5 of the s-glass reaction ones and a few of the jig/worm and flipping sticks is what I have left.

As Ash stated, I believe the demand was too much for Mr. Tharp, I bought them early on, and purchased about 10-12 from him. As a few years went by, he was really hard to get ahold of. Tried to buy another but was always kind of given excuses why he didn't have time to make me more.

I still use most of them every trip, some get put on the rack for newer rods, but I still think they were some of the best rods, and very sensitive.

If your around the east bay (Delta) and want to play with a few let me know. You can see what you've been missing all these years!
